DU admissions 2018: Maximum ECA applications for NCC
DU admissions 2018: With only 15 colleges posting requirements for NCC cadets this admission cycle, competition may be high.Updated: Jun 23, 2018 15:54 IST
The highest number of applications under the extracurricular activity (ECA) category in Delhi University colleges is for the National Cadet Corps (NCC). However, with only 15 colleges posting requirements for NCC cadets this admission cycle, competition may be high. The two other activities that have got quite a large number of applications — close on the heels of the NCC — are dance and debate, respectively.
According to a university official, this year, around 900 seats will be available under the category. Over 17,000 students have applied under the ECA category. However, the official said, students would only compete with those also vying for a seat under the same activity.
A total of 3,019 students have applied for an ECA seat based on their performance in the NCC and 2,495 students have applied for it through dance. Of those who have applied under the dance category, 1,732 students have chosen Indian dance forms – both classical and folk. However, only 50 colleges have said they have seats available for those who excel in Indian dance forms. Meanwhile, 2,331 students have chosen Hindi or English debate as their ECA category, seats for which are available in 40-odd colleges.
For admissions under the ECA quota, the preliminary trials will begin on June 14 and continue till June 21.
DU reserves up to 5% seats, above and beyond the sanctioned seats for students seeking admission under the category. For them, cutoffs are relaxed by up to 15%. Once they qualify, students have to sign an undertaking stating that they will perform for the college and university during the entire three-year period..
