Govt launches ‘Manodarpan’ to provide psychological support to students, teachers
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday launched Manodarpan, an initiative to provide psychological support and counselling to students, teachers and families for mental health and emotional well-being. She was addressing a press conference to announce the fourth tranche of ₹20 lakh crore economic stimulus package.
“Many students required psychological support because lockdown was new to them. They were stressed because of this. Manodarpan will provide assistance to the students, teachers and parents,” the finance minister said.
Manodarpan will comprise of the following components:
1. Advisory guidelines
2. Web page
3. National level database and directory of counsellors
4. National Toll-free helpline number
5. Interactive online chat option
The minister also announced other programmes like PM eVidya to boost digital education in India, New National Curriculum and Pedagogical framework for school, early childhood and teachers and National Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Mission.
“Measures and reforms announced by the FM today will have a transformative impact on our health and education sectors. They will boost entrepreneurship, help public sector units and revitalise the village economy. Reform trajectories of the states will also get an impetus,” the Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on Sunday.
Union HRD minister also thanked the Prime Minister and finance minister for these schemes in a series of tweets.
“On behalf of the students, parents, and teachers of India, I thank Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi and the Finance Minister @nsitharaman for launching MANODARPAN, an initiative to facilitate a sustainable psychosocial support system for students, families, and teachers,” the HRD minster tweeted.
“The initiative will be of great importance even in the post-corona times with proactive and preventive mental health & wellbeing services integrated into the mainstream of learning processes,” he added.
