At a time when practical experience counts more than degrees, students are constantly looking out for opportunities that will fuel their passion. Here’s a look at aspirants who juggle studies with work and multiple projects

Seerat Kapoor (SYBA,RD National College)
Dream Project: Acted in television commercials
It was no co-incidence. I remember auditioning for over 20-25 commercials in two months. But you only start learning when you are on the job, and get that first break. I often face a common question: “Why are you studying? It isn’t required in the field that you have chosen.” I have always had the choice of quitting but I didn’t choose to. I think it’s about the w
illingness to do more.
TIP: I haven’t reached a position to tip actors or people from any field.

Tara Sutaria (FYBMM, St. Andrew’s College)
Dream project: Played the lead role in the musical drama — Grease.
I am also acting in the upcoming Disney sitcom, Oye Jassie. It often gets crazy trying to balance work with college, but I am committed to both. I generally follow a timetable and try my best to stick to it.
Tip: In the creative field, one day you are on the stage, the next day you are recording, and then you are filming; it’s all about discipline and knowing your priorities.

Neil Athayde (ADMA, XIC)
Dream project: Interned with UTV software communication
I was part of the production team of the TV show, Connected Hum Tum. The experience was great and kept me on my toes throughout. I believe if you love something, you will be able to get through the ups and downs despite having other commitments.
TIP: Working in the creative or media industry is tough. Believe in yourself and you will make it.

Adhiraj Bose: (BMM, KC College)
Dream project: Was the assistant director (in charge of case, base and editing) for the film Ek Thi Daayan
I looked up the films that were going on the floors around my summer break and Abhishek Chaubey (film director) helped me set up an interview. I learnt a lot. My work did overlap with my
college projects at times. But somehow, I managed.
Tip: Utilise your vacations to the fullest.

Srishti Jain (Film, Television and Video Production, XIC)
Dream Project: Shot the making of Fukrey and Dedh Ishqiya.
I had shown my work to Mohsin Ali Khan from Film Tent. He asked me to shoot the making of Fukrey. I interviewed the actors and shot bloopers. Working on that video made me see how different reality is from theory. Working with Excel (production house) taught me professionalism and the need for
organisation. To balance studies with their passion, one needs to have that desire to live their dream.
Tip: You learn only when you hold that camera,
interact with creative minds and work under the pressure of deadlines.
