Description:Leshi Singh, wife of the late Purnea leader Butan Singh, has been elected as MLA five times from the Dhamdaha constituency. Her husband, who was a district president of the Samata Party, was murdered during a court appearance in 2000. Leshi Singh began her political career that same year, winning the assembly election on a Samata Party ticket.
In the 2005 elections, she won in February but was defeated in October. However, since 2010, she has been consistently winning her seat. Leshi Singh is one of the few ministers in the current JDU government who has been with Nitish Kumar since the days of the Samata Party. Before becoming a minister, she also served as the chairperson of the Bihar Women's Commission.
