Uttarakhand BJP president and former cabinet minister Madan Kaushik has been an MLA from the Haridwar seat in all the four assembly elections since 2002. As the Congress has failed to win this seat yet, this time the party has fielded seer-turned-politician Satpal Brahamchari, a spiritual ideologue of the Radhe Krishna ashram, against the BJP veteran. From Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board to Dharma Sansad row, the seer community in Haridwar is quite vocal about their interests, hence it won’t be an easy road for Madan Kaushik this year. He served as the cabinet minister twice, from 2017–2021 and 2007–2012.
