They can be called the Indian equivalent of the Golden Raspberry Award, or the Razzies, as they are popularly called. The Golden Kela Awards, to be held on March 12 at India Habitat Centre, will confer awards no film star or filmmaker would be proud to receive — that of the worst in their respective departments. Disgruntled viewers, who’d to endure their films for upto three hours, will be the jury. All they need to do is participate in an online poll at http://www.goldenkela.in and vote for the ones they loved… er… hated the most.

This is the second time the awards are happening. “We started as an experiment. Everyone acknowledges the best; our aim is to honour the worst in the business. We don’t want to offend anyone. This time we are looking for reactions from Bollywood,” said Jatin Varma, editor of Random magazine, which is hosting the Kela Awards.

The nominations are selected by the organising board, and the winners via public voting. “We have received 66,000 online votes so far. We hope the number will substantially increase as the event approaches,” said Varma.
