Ayan Mukerji reveals how he stopped Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor from stepping out together: 'You all are ruining my film'

Actors Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor started dating after they met on the sets of Brahmastra. The film is slated to release on September 9, 2022.

Actors Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor are currently in Hyderabad for their film Brahmastra's poster launch event. During the launch, filmmaker Ayan Mukerji revealed that there are delays in the couple's life because of him.

Alia and Ranbir's love story started back in 2017 when the duo started filming for Brahmastra. At the event, Ayan said that he has been stopping the couple from stepping out together.

Talking about this, Ayan said, "To be honest when we started our film, I thought this is the best casting- Ranbir and Alia, powerhouses. It was just too good. Then Ranbir and Alia became very good friends, then very very very good friends in life, then more than friends. So then, I didn't want the whole world to see them for these 4 years. I didn't want anyone to see them till my film had not come out. So, Lots of things haven’t happened in their lives because every time they went out together, I would be sitting at the back saying 'you all are ruining my film. Please don't go anywhere.' It feels good now that we can share them."

Karan Johar, who is backing the project then commented on Ayan's statement. He said: "Ayan is very protective about this pair. But, I think he is has lost leverage. Had he come out with this film a few years ago then keeping them under wraps would have been a good idea. Unfortunately, you can't curb love that long. At its heart, it's a love story."

As reported by Variety, Brahmastra focuses on Shiva (Ranbir) and his journey of discovering the great power within. Speaking with the publication, Ayan had said, “Brahmastra, is very inspired by Indian mythology and Indian culture and set in the modern world with modern characters, so in many ways, it is a modern mythology of our own. And in that modern spectrum, Mr. Bachchan plays the role of what Professor Dumbledore is to Harry Potter, or what Gandalf the wizard is to Frodo Baggins — he plays the wise teacher guide, who helps Shiva’s character to actualise his powers and find his destiny.”

Brahmastra, a three-part series, has been in the making for years now. The film has been delayed several times. Brahmastra is now tracking a release date of September 9, 2022.
