Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been rocking the 2018 Cannes Film Festival red carpet like nobody can. On Day 6, she had another surprise: A towering top knot, the perfect hairstyle to complement her playfully elegant gown. Come see Aishwarya’s glamorous updo here.

When Aishwarya Rai Bachchan steps out for a red carpet, the cameras get flashing and people get talking about her head-turning looks. This time, the Fanne Khan actor walked the red carpet at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival on Sunday, flaunting a unique, larger-than-life up-do.

At Cannes — the 12-day event that has nothing yet everything to do with fashion and beauty — the topknot has cemented its place as an It-girl hairstyling staple (Deepika Padukone wore one too). And Aishwarya has mastered the ‘do. After stepping out in an elaborate Michael Cinco gown for her first appearance on Saturday, Aishwarya looked glamorous while floating on the red carpet on Sunday in a high-shine strapless mint gown with metallic manicured nails, metallic eye makeup and a pretty pink lip to boot. But what caught our eye the most was Aishwarya’s ornately styled updo.

Her structured top knot was very tight and very high — and it couldn’t look cooler or more fun with those accentuated shoots of gelled straight hair extensions. When quickly glancing from the front you can miss these details, but once you see them, it’s hard to peel your eyes away.

Aishwarya’s sleek updo was the perfect complement to her bespoke gown by Lebanese-American designer Rami Kadi, and its endless train. The juxtaposition between the asymmetry of Aishwarya’s professional-looking bun and the symmetry of the dress, as well as between the updo’s slick, modern sensibilities and the dress’s romantic, feminine vibe, played up the drama on the red carpet.

Though certainly stylish, a top knot is a low-key hair look and is typically reserved for downtime and days off. But leave it to Aishwarya to bring her signature off-duty hair straight to the Cannes red carpet (and pull it off).

Most importantly, it looked like the intricate hairstyle didn’t cause Aishwarya discomfort, as she was caught blowing kisses, waving and smiling throughout her time at the carpet. Then again, who wouldn’t be spreading the love if they had a personal hairstylist to make them look glamorous? We know we would.

Now check out how Deepika worked the top knot at Cannes red carpet on May 11.

Let’s just say Deepika brought the drama with this sculptural fuchsia pink gown from Ashi Studio’s spring summer 2018 couture collection that she wore to the Ash Is Purest White screening on Friday.

For her final Cannes 2018 look, Deepika chose a black Marcell von Berlin gown for the Chopard party on Friday. To make her fancy look even more swoon-worthy, Deepika showed off her diamond Chopard earrings by tying her hair in a really high bun, which was the highlight of her glamazon look.
