Mange Ram Sharma, president ,WBF, and other members and residents of the area met the DC last week and demanded to review the study.

Earlier, the members had raised the flyover issue with chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who directed the department concerned to look into the matter. The CM, himself, voiced the need to decongest the road in front of the temple during his visit recently.

“WBF has played a key role with regard to approaching the government to consider decongesting the road which turns extremely hazardous during festivals due to the traffic mess. We placed three options before the government — make the road one-way, build underpasses to ensure smooth traffic flow or construct a flyover to take the load of vehicles off the stretch.

But we got disheartened when we came to know that the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) did not give importance to the flyover plan at all,” said the WBF president.

The MCG, meanwhile, has appointed a consultant for drawing up a feasibility report for a flyover over Atul Kataria Chowk and Mahavir Chowk or underpasses.

MR Sharma, chief engineer, MCG, said, “The MCG consultant is doing a feasibility study of these locations, including Sheetla Mata Road and we hope the study will cover all these aspects.”

The road leading from Huda City Centre to Sector 4/5 roundabout and further towards Rajendra Park, Daultabad and new Huda Sectors 102-110 via Maharana Pratap Chowk, Atul Kataria Chowk and Sheetla Mata Temple has seen a massive spike in traffic volume over the last five years.

Devotees visit the temple in large numbers round the year, but find it difficult to cross this stretch. During festivals, the road and the area around the temple turn chaotic due to snarls.

Gurgaon MLA Umesh Aggarwal, said, “There is an urgent need of a plan to decongest the road and the construction of a flyover or underpasses could go a long way in resolving the problem.”

“The matter is under consideration,” the DC said.
