3 killed as speeding BMW crashes on Mumbai's Coastal Road, 1 critically hurt

The four people injured in the BMW crash were rushed to the Nair hospital in Mumbai, where three were declared dead.

Three people were killed and one critically injured after a speeding BMW crashed on the Mumbai Coastal Road on Sunday morning.

The accident happened near Lotus Jetty, opposite Lala Lajpatrai College, around 5:20 am. According to the police, the car was travelling from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali when the driver allegedly lost control due to overspeeding.

The injured were rushed to the Nair hospital, where three were declared dead. While one deceased has not been identified, two others who died have been identified as 21-year-old Shanay Gajjal and 17-year-old Dhirya Seth.

The driver of the BMW was Sanay Gijjar, and the other three were passengers. Due to the speed, the car fell from the bridge. 20-year-old Onmy Aditya Oswal, who was sitting beside the driver, has survived.

The boys were from NMIMS College in Juhu and resided in a PG accommodation. The four were from Ahmedabad and had gone to Marine Drive. The accident happened while they were returning.

Police have launched an inquiry into the incident.

The Mumbai Coastal Road is a 10.58-km high-speed freeway connecting Marine Drive in south Mumbai to the Worli end of the Bandra–Worli Sea Link.
