Actor Rupaa Dutta arrested for pickpocketing in book fair; used to keep diary on collection
Police suspected after the actor was seen dumping some money bags in one corner of the book fair. On interrogation, the actor who once claimed herself to be Karni Sena state president, admitted that she is a pickpocketer, police claimed.
Actor Rupaa Dutta, who had once accused Anurag Kashyap of sending her inappropriate messages, has been arrested in Kolkata on charges of pickpocketing in the Kolkata International Book Fair. Police said they have found ₹65,760 from the actor's bag for which Rupaa could not give any satisfactory answer. On being probed, she admitted that she was picking the pocket inside the crowded fair, and it is not the first time that she did this, cops said. Police also found a diary in her bag which the actor used to maintain an account of her stealing.
Reports said in her diary there are names of some crowded places of Kolkata, which are perhaps Rupaa's general targets.
Her movement inside the fairground on Saturday arose suspicion of the police as Rupaa was found dumping some moneybags in the dustbin. Police recovered several moneybags from her bag and arrested her.
A case under section 379/411 of the Indian Penal Code has been started against the actor as per the complaint of sub inspector Jayanya Nath Saha of Bidhannagar North police station, police said. "The fact of the case, in brief, is that in course of performing R.T. duty on 12.03.2022 at 17.15 hrs, he (the SI)had been to Kolkata Book fair and found a chaos going on at the said fair. On intervening, he found that the aforesaid lady was stealing money from a purse. Accordingly, she was arrested and on search several purses containing money amounting Rs. 65,760 was found. On ask she failed to produce any reason for having many purses with her," Police said.
As the actor was produced on the court on Sunday, her bail plea was rejected and she has been sent to judicial custody for a day. In the court, the actor said she was dumping a bottle of cold drink after having it when she came across a bag lying there. She claimed she lifted the bag and then the police arrested her. She also claimed that the bag that police searched was not her, but the bag that she lifted from the dustbin.
Rupaa Dutta has acted in several serials in both Tollywood (Bengali film industry) and Bollywood. On her social media accounts, she identified herself as the state president of West Bengal Karni Sena. She had also accused Anurag Kashyap of sending her inappropriate messages while those messages were not from director Anurag Kashyap but from some other Anurag.
