Members across parties bid farewell to outgoing Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu on Monday. Many parliamentarians, in their remarks for Naidu, lauded his role as the Chairman of the House, while others recollected how he inspired and allowed them to speak in their native languages.

One such exchange that caught everyone's attention was that of AAP leader Raghav Chadha and Naidu.

Making his valedictory remarks for Naidu at his farewell ceremony held earlier in the day, Chadha recollected the day Naidu had administered him the oath of office as a member of the Rajya Sabha. Chadha also recalled a lesson on punctuality imparted to him by the RS Chairman. He also drew certain parallels to emphasise the nature of the bond he shares with Naidu, with one of them being "first love".

Chadha said a person never forgets their first experience, be it the first day of school, first school principal, first teacher or first love. "I will always remember you as my first chairman," Chadha added.

Naidu, who was seen keenly listening to Chadha's farewell speech, playfully picked at Chadha's 'first love' remark and hoped it to be true.

“Raghav, mere khayal se pyaar ek hi hota haina, ek baar, dusri baar, teesri baar, aisa hota hai kya, nahi na, pehla pyaar hi hota haina (Raghav, I believe you love only once...First time, second time, third time, it does not happen like that, no? You love only once),” Naidu, all smiles, asked Chadha in Hindi.

To which, Chadha said, “Sir, I don't have so much experience, but it is good.”

Naidu then said, “Pehla pyaar acha hota hai, wahi pyaar humesha rehna hai, zindagi bhar (First love is good, it should remain forever).”

Naidu completes his five-year term on August 10. He will demit office to pave the way for his successor and former Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to take over.
