KCR to do away with police parades, cultural shows at state functions

If Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has his way, there would be no ceremonial police parades, cultural extravaganza by school children and shows during the Independence Day, Republic Day and state formation day from now on.
KCR, as the chief minister is known, mooted a proposal to celebrate of national festivals in a simple manner at a review meeting with officials over the Telangana state formation day, to be held on June 2.
The chief minister suggested that the officials examine the possibilities of celebrating without causing any inconvenience to the people.
“Is it necessary to bring police battalions from different parts of the state and make them parade in the grounds? Similarly, it is it proper to force students to stand for hours under the sun?” he asked the officials.

The officials agreed with the chief minister and recounted incidents in the past when police personnel and students fainted due to heat.
After suggestions from various officials in the meeting, KCR ordered that the state formation day celebrations will be held in the lawns of public garden, opposite to Jubilee Hall in Hyderabad.
On the day, tributes will be paid to Telangana martyrs, followed by the chief minister’s speech and a poets’ meet. Cultural programmes are slated for the evening.
