No-confidence motion: Modi slams Congress, equates Andhra Pradesh bifurcation to India-Pakistan division
During his speech in Parliament on the no-confidence motion, PM Modi says NDA Government is committed towards the development of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday accused Congress of dividing Andhra Pradesh in the same manner as India and Pakistan, during his speech in Parliament on the no-confidence motion against his government brought by TDP, the ruling party of Andhra Pradesh.
“In 2000, the NDA government under Atal Bihari Vajpayee created three new states — Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. It was done peacefully and the three states are prospering.
“But in 2014, the Congress, without taking the people into confidence, took the decision to create Telangana out of Andhra Pradesh amidst tension.
“At that time I had said that we should preserve the spirit of Telugu and not divide it. But they saved the child and killed the mother.
“You (Congress) thought, if you lose one, you will get the other. But the people there were smart and left you with neither this nor that. And you left behind these problems.
“This is not the new for you. You divided India-Pakistan during independence. Today also we are facing problems. You have divided Andhra Pradesh also like this. If you had taken them into confidence, these problems would not have happened. But you thought nothing about this,” he said.
Modi went on to say that after the bifurcation, there used to be problems between chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandrasekhar Rao.
“Sometimes the governor, sometimes the home minister, sometimes, I myself needed to sit and solve their problems. TRS showed maturity and set off on the path of development. In AP, you know what happened,” he said.
“I want to tell the people of Andhra Pradesh that we will keep working for them. We will do everything possible for the development of AP,” he said.
“NDA Government is committed towards the development of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana,” he said.
