Narendra Modi in Bihar HIGHLIGHTS: PM lays foundation stone of highway, sewerage projects

After the Patna University event early in the day, Narendra Modi announced a fund of Rs 10,000 crore for 10 private and 10 public universities to make them world-class.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised chief minister Nitish Kumar for his commitment towards the progress of Bihar at the centenary function of the Patna University on Saturday morning.

Modi announced a fund of Rs 10,000 crore for 10 private and 10 public universities over the period of five years to make them world-class.

After the event, Modi will launch infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 3,700 crore at Mokama, about 100 km from Patna, with Union minister Nitin Gadkari.

Here are the highlights:

3.41pm: Prime Minister ends his speech in Mokama, by stressing government’s focus on roads, railways and waterways. His day-long visit to Bihar ends.

3.35pm: Projects whose foundation stones are being laid will give impetus to Bihar’s development: PM Narendra Modi.

3.28pm: The four new special trains will help people in Bihar and northeastern Uttar Pradesh to reach home in time for Diwali and Chhath, says PM Modi.

3.10pm: Modi is speaking in Mokama, greets people in Bhojpuri.

3.07pm: PM Modi launches road and sewerage projects worth Rs 3,769 crore in Mokama.


2.25pm: Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari speaks in Mokama.

2.18pm: Modi arrives in Mokama; he will lay the foundation stone of four national highways projects and launch four sewerage projects under the Namami Gange programme.

1.20pm: PM Narendra Modi leaves for Mokama. He made an unscheduled visit to newly constructed art museum.

1pm: Modi will shortly address a public meeting in Mokama, around 100 km from Patna.

11.05am: Ram Vilas Paswan, Ashwini Choubey, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Upendra Kushwaha — Patna University alumni — take their seats on stage.

10am: This is what PM Modi’s itinerary is expected to be:

•He will lay the foundation stone for four sewerage projects under the Namami Gange programme; and four National Highway projects. The total outlay of these projects will be over Rs 3,700 crore.

•The four sewerage projects include Sewage Treatment Plant at Beur, Sewerage System with Sewer Network at Beur, Sewage Treatment Plant at Karmalichak and STP and Sewer Network at Saidpur.

The four National Highway projects are:

•4-laning of Aunta–Simariya section of NH-31 and construction of 6-lane Ganga Setu

•4 laning of Bakhtiyarpur-Mokama section of NH-31

•2-lane construction of Maheshkhunt-Saharsa-Purnea section of NH 107

•2-lane construction of Biharsharif-Barbigha-Mokama section of NH-82
