During India’s third ODI against the West Indies, Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored a gritty 78* to ensure India had a competitive target to defend on what was a tricky and two-paced wicket at Antigua. Thanks in no small part to his innings, India would eventually go on to win the game by 93 runs.

However, his unbeaten half-century also saw Dhoni reach a new personal milestone. The former India skipper is now second on the list of highest run-getters in ODIs by wicketkeepers.

The man he overtook on the list is Adam Gilchrist, and the Australian legend wasted no time in sending a congratulatory message to his fellow wicketkeeper.

Gilchrist posted a picture of the two from an old Indian Premier League game when he was the skipper of the Kings XI Punjab franchise. “Congrats on passing me young fella. Was always a matter of time” was the cheeky caption on the picture.

Dhoni has aggregated 9,442 runs in 294 ODIs before Sunday’s 4th game against West Indies in Antigua. Glichrist scored 9,410 runs.

The wicketkeeper with the most runs in ODI cricket is former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara with 13,341 runs, a record that seems unlikely to be broken any time soon.
