Arrest warrant for ex-NVDA official

THE SPECIAL Lok Ayukta Court has ordered issue of arrest warrant against former chief engineer of NVDA A K Sojatiya who has been accused of providing undue benefit to M/S Pallitanwala, a Kerala based company that was working in the Man Project.

The court also directed that steps be taken to impound the passport of the accused to ensure that he does not flee to
another country.

The case against Sojatiya had been registered in 1995, but the permission to file challan was only given in November 2005, by that time Sojatiya had retired.

The challan was put up on February 20 and when Sojatiya failed to turn up for the hearing, the court directed that arrest warrant be issued against him.

The company in question had been given contract to make Overflow Masonic Dam in the Man Project in 1991-92. The NVDA gave Rs 1.10 crore to the company to purchase some specific machinery for the project.

However, after some time the company took away the machinery from the site and NVDA continued to make payment for the
machinery.

A complaint was made and Lok Ayukta found a case of misuse of official position and lodged a case.
