Congress MP and former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin's son Ayazuddin (19) died due to multiple organ failure at the Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad on Friday.
Ayazuddin was admitted to the super speciality hospital on September 11 after he met with an accident while riding a sports bike. His cousin Azmal ur Rahman (son of Azharuddin’s sister), who was riding pillion, had died on the spot.
A second-year B.Com student at St Mary’s College, Ayazuddin was being groomed for a career in cricket. He was representing the State Bank of India’s junior side, for which one does not need to be an employee of the bank.
The Apollo Hospital confirmed the death on Friday morning. Hospital sources said the ventilator was taken off after a test conducted late on Thursday found he was brain dead.
On Thursday, Apollo Hospitals (central region) CEO Dr K Hari Prasad issued a brief message that said: "Brain function tests conducted on Ayazuddin (in the past few days) indicate brain dysfunction. And his status remains critical.”
The doctors had removed his left kidney on Wednesday. They all along remained worried about his brain condition following his cardiac arrest.
