Justice AN Varma of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court disposed of Bollywood mega star Amitabh Bachchan’s writ petition pertaining to a land dispute on Tuesday.
The judge said no action of civil, revenue or criminal nature shall be taken against him (Bachchan) by the concerned gram sabha in accordance with the undertaking given by its counsel.
Bachchan had initially challenged the June 1 order of the Additional Commissioner of Faizabad, upholding cancellation of the allotment
of 2.5 bighas of agricultural land to the mega star in Daulatpur village in Barabanki district.
During the course of the hearing, however, he abandoned his claim to the property following the statement given by the gram sabha’s laywer that it would not initiate any action of either civil, revenue or criminal nature if the actor abandoned his claim to the land.
Bachchan, while abandoning his claim, had accordingly pleaded that the court pass an appropriate order in this connection.
Justice Varma further observed that the land in question shall vest in the gram sabha of Daulatpur as recognised by the revenue authorities, including the Additional Commissioner (Administration), Faizabad, whose order of June 1 was impugned by the court.
