The kidnapped man was freed by the police on Monday evening after the accused disclosed the hide-out where the man had been kept captive. The accused was sent to jail on Tuesday.

Police said that Tribhuwan had got the voter kidnapped to pave the way for his victory in the election scheduled to be held in Varanasi district on Wednesday.

According to information, BDC member Radhey Shyam, a resident of Ajgara village in Cholapur area, was missing since Sunday evening. His wife waited for him till Monday morning before lodging a complaint with the police.

Soon after the complaint, in view of the Election Commission directive, SP (Rural Area) Paresh Pandey started investigations and suspected Tribhuwan Singh, contesting the election of Block Pramukh from Cholapur development block.

The SP interrogated Tribhuwan strictly, who ultimately confessed the kidnapping.

Subsequently the police conducted a raid at a tubewell in Gosaipur village. Two persons managed to escape through the fields but the cops succeeded in nabbing one kidnapper and freed the voter.
