Cong does not need us: Samajwadi
"Congress does not need us to form govt, but we will consider if the need arises," Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh said.
Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh on Friday met CPM veteran Harkishen Singh Surjeet amidst speculation over what his party with 36 MPs will do in the run-up to the new Government formation.
The SP is holding its Parliamentary Board meeting on Friday to discuss future strategies.
However, Singh said after the meeting with Surjeet that the "the new Government does not need us. If need arises, we will consider about it."
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister VP Singh also met the senior CPM leader to discuss the possible inclusion of various like-minded parties in the new government.
VP Singh said the Left parties should consider joining the government because then "Cabinet representation will be according to political reality. Also it would give out a big message of stability if the Left comes to the government with Congress and other parties".
"For the Left, it is a golden opportunity. It is at the periphery now and can present itself, give positive inputs for the working class", he said
Singh said he would speak to the Left leader Jyoti Basu who is arriving on Friday evening.
On the issue of formation of Government, VP Singh said "an ideological battle is going on. If all people who share the same ideology come together, then it gives strength to the battle".
When asked whether Samajwadi Party should also be in the Government, he said "I feel there is a need to include everybody, Mayawati (BSP chief) also".
