His only crime was to ask a Congress MLA, whom he didn't recognise, to produce identity card or entry pass at the Orissa Assembly.
Senior Congress legislator Padmalochan Panda was about to enter the assembly premises on Thursday when he was stopped by sub-inspector P.K. Tripathy. The MLA didn't have the entry pass issued by the Assembly Secretariat and they got into a verbal duel. Soon senior police officers intervened and the MLA was allowed to enter.
The MLA alleged that the cop used words like "nonsense" at him. The issue soon snowballed with MLAs of the Congress and opposition condemning the police behaviour.
CM Naveen Patnaik informed the House that the SI had been suspended on charges of misbehaviour. Meanwhile, two men in the Watch and Ward staff were suspended as they were reportedly absent at the time of the incident.
