Inter Milan face a must-win trip to Fiorentina on Wednesday if they are to retain any realistic hope of closing the gap on runaway leaders Juventus.
Robert Mancini's side are eight points behind the Turin giants and host their rivals four days later. Failure to win both games would leave Inter facing a mammoth task for the rest of the season.
The Milan side looked good in their last outing defeating Chievo 1-0 although they lacked penetration up front.
Against high-flying Fiorentina, they will have to neutralise the league's top-scorer Luca Toni who has already found the net 22 times this season including hitting the winner last weekend against Lecce.
Juventus, 1-0 winners over Udinese last weekend thanks to a disputed goal for international striker Alessandro del Piero, will be strong favourites at home against lowly Parma who went down 0-3 at home to Roma in their last game.
Third-placed AC Milan, 14 points behind Juventus, are at home to Treviso and although coach Carlo Ancelotti has not abandoned all hope of winning the league, he is clear that his side are still playing below their best.
"We are heading in the right direction, but there is still a lot of improvement to make especially in our goal-taking," he said.
AC Milan will also have one eye on their Champions league round of last 16 game first leg game against Bayern Munich on February 21.
