Deve Gowda withdraws resignation as JD(S) chief

Janata Dal (Secular) has also suspended Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy and 39 other rebel MLAs from the party.

Janata Dal (Secular), headed by former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, on Saturday suspended Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and 39 other rebel MLAs from the party, JD (S) spokesman Kunwar Danish Ali announced in New Delhi.

Ali told reporters that the decision to suspend the rebel MLAs "with immediate effect" had been taken as they had violated "accepted principles of the party."

He said that Gowda, who had resigned from party presidentship last month, has decided to withdraw his resignation and continue as president to keep the party intact.

JD(S) National Executive will meet here on Monday to take stock of the political situation in Karnataka and chart it out next course of action.
