Distribution of drought prone areas

Areas that get upto 60 centimetres of rainfall annually are the most drought prone.

india Updated: May 07, 2003 21:14 IST

Almost a quarter of India's land area is prone to drought. Areas that get up to 60 centimetres of rainfall annually are the most drought prone. The drought is almost directly linked to the areal variation in the monsoon, the effect of which lasts for much longer than the actual span of the monsoon.
