Qureishi said, “Details of irregularities during the election are being collected along with news reports to understand the developments better.” Following a comprehensive analysis of irregularities and patterns, the commission, keeping in view the assembly elections, would prepare a detailed report to prevent their reoccurrence, he added. “This is necessary to hold free and fair assembly polls,” he said.
Qureishi further said only people having valid voter identity cards would be allowed to vote during the next election. “Identity cards have been issued to about 70 per cent of the voters and the rest would get them before the election,” he said.
Expressing concern over the reported irregularities in voter lists, Qureishi said to prevent such problems booth level officers, who would carry out a door to door check of genuine voters, were being appointed for the first time. “They have been instructed to ensure that not a single voter is missed from the area under their control while preparing the list,” he added.
Replying to a question about the assembly limits to be considered during the assembly elections, he said it would be held according to the old limits. Qureishi was accompanied by State election officer AK Vishnoi.
