Ford will unveil another Shelby concept vehicle, a high-performance version of the full-size Ford Expedition sport-utility vehicle, at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas in November. Kia unveils the all-new Sportage
Kia Motors Corporation has released the first official photographs and technical details of its eagerly awaited all-new small SUV, which will make its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in September. Called the ‘Sportage’ – reviving the name of Kia’s hugely successful earlier 4x4 model which sold strongly all around the world during the 1990s – the new five-door SUV model is thoroughly modern in every aspect of its design. The four-wheel drive system is fully automatic and standard equipment includes traction control, while ESP (Electronic Stability Program) will be available and it comes with front, side and curtain airbags.
Longer, wider and higher than the average small SUV, it will offer customers the technical sophistication and looks of the Sorento, but in a smaller package. The Sportage will be available with a choice of 2-litre and 2.7-litre V6 gasoline, or 2-litre diesel engines.
Shanghai gears up for F-1
The China Grand Prix, to be held in Shanghai on September 26, is Formula One auto racing’s first foray into a country that’s increasingly enthralled by fast cars and glamorous lifestyles that are the sport’s global signature. For China, it’s also a dry run on the world’s sporting stage for the summer Olympics it will host in 2008. At least 150,000 spectators are expected at the Shanghai International Circuit (including 100,000 from overseas) for China’s biggest international sporting event ever. Many more of the sport’s 39 million fans worldwide will watch on TV as cars zip around the track at over 200 mph and China stakes its new claim to sporting sophistication.
