The son of noted Muslim scholar and former MP Syed Shahabuddin, Nayyar Pervez, was found dead in mysterious conditions in a hotel room in the United States, where he was working as a professor in Columbia University.
Pervez, 44, one of the youngest professors of the prestigious University, was found dead in a hotel room in New York on Thursday evening, his family members said in New Delhi on Saturday.
The only son of Shahabuddin, he had been in the US for some years. He is married and has two children.
His family members here are desperately trying to gather more details about his mysterious death.
He had last called his wife on Wednesday evening and was found dead in the hotel room a day later, they said.
His body would be flown to India on Monday, they added.
Syed Shahabuddin, a former Janata Dal MP, is the president of All India Muslim Majlis-Mushawarrat.
