Govinda was fighting his maiden electoral battle while Naik was seeking a fifth consecutive term from the constituency.

Crackers were burst and people danced in the streets as film star and Congress candidate Govinda on Thursday wrested the Mumbai North seat from Petroleum Minister Ram Naik of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
