THE INDIAN Social Council organised a programme to recall the contribution of Nawab Hamidullah Khan, the last ruler of the erstwhile princely state of Bhopal, in the development of Bhopal.

The meeting was held to mark the death anniversary of the Nawab who had passed away on February 4, 1960. The participants fondly remembered the Nawab in modernising Bhopal and establishing industries and factories in the princely state.

“Khan was not a despot but a visionary who took decisions for the benefit of the people”, said Dr Abdullah, while addressing the meet. “The Sehore sugar factory, Bhopal textiles mill, cardboard factory, matchbox factory, schools and madarsas were opened during his rule”, he added.

Hamidullah was the chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University for a long time. Yunus Khan also spoke on the role of Hamidullah Khan, according to a press release issue today.
