Actress Anna Chancellor, a direct descendant of the author who gave the world timeless classics like Pride and Prejudice, said that Hathaway was just not ‘plain’ enough to play Austen in the biopic Becoming Jane.
“In my mind Anne Hathaway is just too pretty to play her. Jane was a very plain woman. Her beauty was in her brain. But that’s what Hollywood does,” Contactmusic quoted her, as saying.
The British-made movie tells the story of Austen’s doomed relationship with Irish lawyer Tom Lefroy, which faltered when LeFroy’s financial prospects failed to impress Austen’s family.
