Japanese film Departures won the best foreign film award at the Oscars here on Sunday.

Yojiro Takita's drama tells the story of a mortician who works to preserve the dignity of a person after death.

Other films nominated on Sunday included France's The Class, Israel's Waltz with Bashir, Germany's The Baader Meinhof Complex and Austria's Revanche.
