The Kamla Nehru Memorial Hospital Society (KNMHS) has made a formal request to the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to completely 'delink' it from Allahabad University with immediate effect.

However, keeping itself away from the tug-of-war, the Ministry has on its part asked the AU Vice-Chancellor to put the matter, along with other similar requests from other constituent units, before competent authorities and decide upon them— a task which will now be taken up by the AU Executive Council members at their next meeting which is all set to be held at 3 pm on March 21.
Information about the meeting along with the detailed agenda has now reached all the Counsellors and the meet has become the most awaited event for the entire AU fraternity.

As per the agenda and the annexures attached, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education of the Ministry of HRD, RD Sahay, has informed AU VC through a DO letter dated January 12, 2006 that— "Kamla Nehru Memorial Hospital Society has since informed that in view of the Ministry not agreeing to be a part of the MoU in this regard, they would not be interested in having any relationship with the University of Allahabad."

A copy of the letter dated 21/12/2005 and written by Inder Khosla, secretary of the Kamla Nehru Memorial Hospital Society, too has been attached.

The letter further says, "Since control and administration of the constituent units is to be decided by university itself, and, is a matter entirely between the constituent units and the university, you are requested to move the competent authority of the University for making the necessary amendment to the relevant statutes of the university, deleting the name of Kamla Nehru Post Graduate Medical Institute from the list of constituent units".

"You are also advised that in case of any other constituent unit of the university decided not to be under the ambit of the university, similar action may be taken by the competent authority", the letter further adds.

With the issue of HRI also set to be taken up at this EC meeting and the three-member sub-committee report about the MLN Medical College and the SPM Degree College too listed in the agenda, the March 21 EC meeting has started to emerge as the most vital to be held during the recent years.

Though some other issues like the fixation of the modalities of the AU Finance Committee, disbursement of honorariums to guest faculty as per new UGC norms, some details of the Board of Studies and the Contributory Health Scheme/LTA benefits too are on the agenda, the matter of constituent units not wishing to be part of the AU are expected to dominate.
