In the absence of a new rate list, today tipplers were happy to get liquor at old rates.
“The excise duty on country liquor has been increased from Rs.108 to Rs.130 per litre. This will increase the price of a quarter by Rs.5,” District Excise Officer, J Upadhayay, told Hindustan Times today.
“The excise duty on premium to scotch categories has been hiked by Rs.23 to Rs.26 per bottle. Under scotch Alpha, the hike is Rs.20 per bottle,” he added.
“The overall hike is around 15 to 20 percent. However, duty on cheap to premium category has not been increased,” Upadhayay informed.
Sushil Kumar, a liquor salesman in Harola said, “We have not received the revised rate list and are still selling the liquor at old rates. Once we get the updated list, we will charge new rates.”
