Virasat is supposed to add an exclusive episode to the illustrious cultural heritage of the city. Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma, the great santoor player and Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan, renowned classical singer from Kolkata will render a memorable performance at Saraswati Ghat on December 2. SMC Ghoorpur is organising the event.

"Virasat is being organised in various cities for the past six months by SPICMACAY. It is an endeavour to give an opportunity to the children to come close to their invaluable cultural heritage and identify themselves with it. As such, most of the eminent musicians have performed in this event and now the grand closing ceremony of this eventful series will take place at Allahabad," said Rina Singh, principal of SMC Ghoorpur.

"We are inviting all the schools of the city to attend the event. Each school is allowed to bring in 10 students and two teachers. It will be a more innovative approach if the stress is laid on allowing the younger lot such as children upto class third to attend the programme. Unfortunately, they are too busy grasping the pesudo-culture of satellite channels in their formative years. This is the period when they should open their eyes to the vast and invaluable traditional values of their own country," added Rina Singh.

Dr Madhu Shukla, convener of SPICMACAY Allahabad chapter, said that the inauguration of Virasat took place at Varanasi and now it is the time to bring down the curtains.

"Most of the prominent personalities will attend the event such as Kiran Seth, founder member of SPICMACAY, Manjula Jhunjhunwala, ex-chairperson, UP and Uttaranchal coordinator, SP Singh and UC Seth besides the selected lot from Allahabad," said Dr Shukla.

"Following the guru-shishya parampara during the event will further add to musical ambience. It is an opportunity for the children to know more about their culture enriched by the presence of such great performers in the field of music," added Rina Singh.
