According to the Dantewada police, the CAF personnel Mangdu Takka had gone to a local weekly haat bazar when the rebels opened fire on him.

Takka died on the spot. Four other villagers sustained minor bullet injuries and were taken to a local hospital, said the police.

According to the eye-witnesses, there were around six Maoists, dressed as villagers, who carried out the attack. The incident led to chaos in the market as the rebels managed to flee in the nearby forest.

Chief minister Raman Singh has strongly condemned the attack.
