Officials of the Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) had last month raided some residences on Ratu Road of Ranchi and lodged police complaints against a dozen people, including one-year-old Harsh Chaudhary.

The board officials also slapped a fine of Rs 4,000 on Harsh whose father on Monday filed a petition in Ranchi court seeking anticipatory bail for his son.

The hearing has been deferred till April 5.

"How can a one-year-old who depends on others for food and everything steal electricity?" asked Suresh Chaudhary, Harsh's father.

The complaint was lodged in Sukhdeonagar police station.

JSEB officials said in the complaint the boy had been stealing electricity for a long time and a seven metre long wire was found in his possession.

Along with JSEB officials, policemen were also present when the raid was conducted and made witnesses in the case.
