Police on high alert after blasts in Varanasi

ALLAHABAD POLICE went on high alert within moments the news of Varanasi bomb blasts reaching the city late on Tuesday evening. Cops led by SSP Vijay Singh Meena started random checking of suspicious persons and vehicles near temples and mosques as well as the Junction railway station and the bus stations. GRP personnel too went on alert and started checking the railway stations including the Allahabad Junction station.

The SSP put almost the entire force under him including all the Additional SPs, Circle Officers, Station Officers and Inspectors on to the task. All the SOs were ordered to deploy force near temples and mosques falling under their areas of jurisdictions and keep a tight vigil for any suspicious person or package.

Civil Lines Bus station, Allahabad Junction Station, the Civil Lines Hanuman temple and the Bade Hanuman temple at Sangam the first to be put under the security cover.

On being contacted, SSP (Allahabad) Vijay Singh Meena, who was personally reviewing the security near the Bade Hanuman temple at the time, said, “I have sounded an alert in wake of the blasts at Varanasi. We are specially keeping a watch at the temples, mosques, bus stations and the railway stations. All the SOs have been instructed to take precautions in their areas and all the COs and the ASPs are patrolling to supervise security. So far nothing has been found but we remain on high alert.”
