Resentment growing as power cuts hit life

SCHEDULED AND unscheduled power cuts coupled with the problem of low voltage have thrown normal life out of gear in Varanasi. Several parts of the district are also witnessing water crisis in the wake of inadequate power supply. Reports said that the citizens were getting 12 to 14-hour power supply while the declared power cut in the city is only for eight hours.

Several parts of the district are also witnessing water crisis in the wake of inadequate power supply. Reports said that the citizens were getting 12 to 14-hour power supply while the declared power cut in the city is only for eight hours.

Students are the worst affected lot of the society as after the annual examinations of Uttar Pradesh Higher Secondary Board, the home examinations of various schools are under way and the students are not getting adequate power supply for the preparation of their examinations.

In the same manner, the traders are also forced to bear the brunt of the grim power scenario in the entire district. Trader leaders says that several small and cottage industries of Varanasi are on the verge of closure.

Peeved at the poor power scenario, the members of Varanasi Nagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal staged a demonstration at Azad Park in Lahurabeer here on Saturday. The traders were of the view that several small and cottage industries were on the verge of closure due to the grim power scenario in the city.Patron of Mandal Mohanlal Saravgi, president Jedhmal Chandak, general secretary Ajit Singh Bagga, Gokul Sharma, Sanjeev Singh and other office-bearers of the organization lambasted the State government for its alleged ‘failure’ in providing basic amenities to the citizens.

The members of the Mandal have threatened the State government that they would launch a massive agitation against the poor power scenario in the city.

The traders also criticised the State government for its alleged atrocities on traders in Meerut.

Rishi Keshari, Satya Narayan Goenka, Vishwanath Dubey and Prabhakar Singh, Pramod Agrahari, Jagdish Gupta, Kamla Kant Pandey, Narayan Khemka and Sandeep Chaturvedi were among other trader leaders who addressed the demonstration.

Activists of Rashtriya Krantikari Samajwadi Party staged a demonstration at the district headquarters against the grim power scenario here in Varanasi on Saturday. District president, Harishanker Singh ‘Munna’ said that inadequate power supply had thrown normal life out of gear.

The agitated party workers said that if the government failed to ensure smooth power supply, they would not pay the electricity bill.
