DGP Swaraj Puri today suspended a Station Officer, punished two other policemen and issued warning to two other Station Officers. The action comes after he made a surprise inspection of the three police stations in the State capital on late Tuesday night.
The DGP also expressed his annoyance over the delay in execution of warrants at these police stations. Puri had visited the Koh-e-Fiza, Mangalwara and Jehangirabad police stations on late Tuesday night. Besides, letters of warning were issued on Wednesday from DGP’s office to senior district police officers about the irregularities found during his inspection.
The officials of district police were not informed about the visit in advance. The DGP, who first inspected Koh-e-Fiza police station, found there warrants were pending and SO had not made entry about his arrival, departure at the police station. The DGP found that Station Officer Dinesh Dwivedi was not investigating the important cases himself.
Puri ordered suspension of Dwivedi for laxity in duty and lacking control over subordinates besides initiation of departmental inquiry against the latter. The DGP also found SI Rakesh Shrivastava and Head Constable Mehtab Singh negligent and ordered censure to be recorded in their service book.
At Mangalwara police station, DGP found several irregularities and expressed dissatisfaction over lack of cleanliness. He warned SO DS Chauhan to keep the police station in order. At Jehangirabad police station, the DGP asked SO SM Zaidi to ensure that investigation of cases were finished within the timeframe and warrants executed.
Besides, the DGP directed SP Anant Kumar Singh to be careful about maintenance of records, proper cleanliness and lighting in the police station. Puri asked SP to keep reviewing the working of police stations.
The district police were surprised at the sudden inspection. It was only after visiting the Koh-e-Fiza police station that the DGP called the IG.
After the DGP had visited the two police stations, SP Anant Kumar Singh got the information and reached the Jehangirabad police station. Talking to the Hindustan Times, the DGP said he had conducted similar inspections at Shahjehanabad, Khajuri and other police stations in the past as well and it was a routine exercise. “Whatever irregularities were found, action was taken and the officials warned to stop the recurrence of such things,” he added.
Police stations sans SOs
With Koh-e-Fiza Station Officer (SO) Dinesh Dwivedi’s suspension, another police station is now without a SO. Earlier, MP Nagar, Bagh Sewania and Kamla Nagar PSs were functioning without SOs. They were removed under disciplinary action ranging from improper investigation, arrest of wrong persons to inability to check crime. The Crime Branch too does not have a SO. This makes five police stations in the capital without Station Officers.
