Earlier, local MLA RMD Agrawal raised the issue in the House, inviting the attention of the government to reports of corruption in the GDA, published in various newspapers. Agrawal said even the GDA vice-chairman admitted the prevailing corruption, but no one dared take action against subordinate officials.

Agrawal alleged the government shielded corrupt officials and the department was under direct control of the chief minister.

He demanded an inquiry into serious complaints of corruption in the GDA and frequent changes in land use which damaged the concept and the original project of the Ramgarh Tal.

Agrawal said the authorities had revised the budget for construction of cemented roads on the office premises from Rs 39.7 lakh to Rs 100 lakh.

Continuing his offensive against GDA officials, Dr Agrawal said higher authorities should investigate the revised rate after issuance of tender for levelling of the ground in Buddha Vihar part-B residential colony and in Buddha Vihar commercial project, Gautam Vihar part A, B, C and in front of Champa Devi Park.

Taking cognizance of the complaints, the Speaker directed the State Government to inform the House about the complaints.

Large-scale irregularities were detected in carrying out drainage construction work at different colonies developed by the GDA. Interestingly, after developing the colonies, maintenance of drainage work was handed over to the municipal corporation. Sources said due to a nexus between junior engineers, contractors and some GDA officials, a fresh proposal for construction of drainage in those colonies was made and the GDA handed over the work to contractors.
