The students expressed these views in a meeting held at the AU Students’ Union Hall here on Wednesday.

They accused some student leaders of indulging in doublespeak to mislead students during agitations.

They said some student leaders showed fake concern for students and sided with the varsity administration.

They said that such student leaders were involved in student politics just for personal gains and they had no serious concern for students.

The students criticised the functioning of the AUU and said that it was the duty of the AUU office bearers to unite students and stage protests against the dictatorship of college authorities.

The students expressed resentment over the apathy of the varsity authorities. They said such an attitude had added to the annoyance of students and vitiated the democratic atmosphere of the varsity.

Those present in the meeting were Dr Ramesh Verma, Dr SatiramYadav, Amar Singh Yadav, Banke Lal Patel, GovindVallabh Patel, Nirbhay Narayan, Virendra Kumar, Manoj Chaudhari, Rajesh Chaudhari, Sunil Patel, Ramesh Chandra Sonkar and Rajendra Chaudhari among others.

AISA strike
All India Students’ Association (AISA) activists continued their protest against reduction in seats in the varsity. AISA vice- president Deepak Singh started a hunger strike on the Allahabad University (AU) campus on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Singh charged the varsity authorities with shirking their social responsibilities by restricting students from achieving higher education through reduction in seats. He said the vice-chancellor had turned down the demands of students who were protesting peacefully on the campus.

He accused the AU authorities of favouring employee/teacher wards by granting admission to them with concession.

Maurya said the AUU failed to maintain the strength of the agitation against reduction in seats and thus their protests were of no use. The day-to-day activities of the so-called student leaders had led to the suffering of common students seeking admission in the varsity.

Those present on the occasion were Krantibodh, Seema Yadav, Shakti, Sandhya, Umesh Chandra, Lalla, Vijay, Pradeep Singh, Prem Shankar Singh, Ram Naresh Ram, Alok Srivastava, Shivaji Yadav and Arvind.
