POWER SUPPLY snapped at several places as electricity wires broke under branches of trees that fell as a result of thundersqualls that lashed the City this evening.

Most of the power failures were of short durations, and the Electricity Department restored power supply at all places. Bhopal City circle superintending engineer S A Ansari told the Hindustan Times that power supply snapped at Lal Ghati area in the evening, as an insulator was punctured. The insulator gave into rains and winds, and subsequently burst resulting in power failure. The problem was corrected soon and power supply was restored.

A tree fell over electricity wires near Bharat Bhavan resulting in power failure for almost half-an-hour at about 5.30 pm. The MPSEB team was informed and power supply was restored after about 45 minutes.

Another tree fell over electricity wires in the E-5 Arera Colony area and power was snapped there. The power supply was restored after almost half-an-hour.

Some parts of Govindpura area also went without electricity due to the sudden squall, as some branches of trees broke and fell on electricity wires passing under them. Power supply was also snapped for about half-an-hour in the Kotra area.
Power supply was disrupted in the Kolar area for almost 20 minutes at about 5.40 pm due to heavy winds and thundershowers.

Trees and branches also fell near Raj Bhavan, Chief Minister’s house and other areas of the City. However, Additional SE M S Atre said the power supply was not disrupted in those areas and electricity was supplied uninterrupted in the Malviya Nagar area.
