Many officials, who had shifted loyalties anticipating Captain Amarinder Singh to form the next government in Punjab, are now unable to conceal their embarrassment after Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal said it openly at Anandpur Sahib on the occasion of Holla Mohalla that he had the list of bureaucrats who paid visit at Moti Bagh palace at Patiala, the residence of the former.
This has created a flutter among both the Punjab civil and police officials. They are now working overtime to first find out if their names figured in the list and how could they win back the loyalty of the Badal family.
Though Badal also said that he had no objection if some bureaucrats had proximity with the congress leaders as they were free to move and interact with anyone but it alone was not sufficient for the turncoat babus to relax.
Many officers who have been caught on the wrong foot are trying to find mediators who could get them access to SAD, president, Sukhbir Singh Badal or his wife and MP, Harsimrat Kaur or her MLA brother Bikram Singh Majithia to mend fences.
Many senior officers that include IAS, PCS, IPS and PPS officers, in order to win back the generosity of Badals are carrying huge flower bouquets for them.
On March 7 a large number of well-wishers and supporters of Badals also went to official residence of Parkash Singh Badal at Chandigarh to greet him who is likely to don the mettle of the chief executive of Punjab for the record fifth time at the age of 84.
The chief minister's personal staff had decorated the entire residence with marigold flowers to accord a warm welcome to the architects of the historic win in the Punjab assembly polls.
As per the original plan Badal, Sukhbir, Harsimrat and Bikram were supposed to fly from Amritsar and reach Chandigarh by 5.30 in the evening at the official residence of the chief minister to greet the well-wishers.
Among several others who came to congratulate Badal family were senior Punjab IAS officers such as SS Channy, A Venuprasad, Anirudh Tiwari, Kahan Singh Pannu, Sanjay Kumar, Hussan Lal and R Venkatrattnam.
However they all had to return disappointed after they learnt that Badals have decided to stay put at Amritsar as they would want to be part of the early morning services and prayers at Darbar Sahib.
