Top 5 foods for healthy bowel movements
In an Instagram post on March 27, he shared a post titled 'top magnesium foods to poop daily'. In the video, he said: “Magnesium-rich foods I eat as a doctor for a healthy poop every single day.”
Dr Joseph Salhab then listed his top five picks for healthy bowel movement, saying:
1. The first is watermelon. It is like nature's Gatorade. It is a fantastic source of protective chemicals, water and electrolytes like magnesium; and it is perfect after a workout.
2. The second is avocado. It is like nature's multivitamin, a remarkable source of healthy fats, fibre and more magnesium than any other fruit. So, it keeps your digestive system running smoothly while nourishing your entire body.
3. The third is berries. They are tiny but they are mighty and one of the most antioxidant-rich fruits with fibre, water and natural sweetness. They are like nature's candy that supports gut health with every juicy bite.
4. The fourth is pineapple. It is like nature's digestive enzyme; it is packed with bromelain, vitamin C and hydrating properties. It helps break down proteins while delivering fresh hydration and magnesium to your system.
5. The last is kiwi. It is like nature's prebiotic, a powerhouse of vitamin C, fibre, and digestive enzymes; with a surprising magnesium content, it gently cleanses your digestive tract while boosting your immune system.
How does magnesium help with digestive issues?
In his caption, Dr Joseph Salhab wrote, “I am sharing the magnesium-rich foods I personally eat daily to maintain healthy bowel movements. Most people don’t realise how crucial magnesium is for gut function. These foods have made a real difference for me and many of my patients who deal with constipation, IBS, and other digestive issues.”
He added, “Magnesium helps relax the muscles in your digestive tract - something that fibre alone can’t accomplish. When you combine good magnesium intake with proper fibre and hydration, your gut actually works how it’s supposed to. These are all everyday foods you can find at any grocery store. Nothing fancy, just effective. Let me know if any of these magnesium foods have helped your gut health too.”
Remember to consult with a healthcare professional if you experience persistent or severe constipation.
