Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Parkash Singh Badal is Harsimrat Kaur’s covering nominee, others too pitch in for kin
Lok Sabha Elections 2019: In Punjab, the relatives of many Lok Sabha candidates have filed nomination as their covering nominee.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) patron and former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday filed nomination as the covering candidate for party nominee from the Bathinda Lok Sabha segment and his daughter-in-law Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
Though it was for the first time in his political career spanning seven decades that the five-time CM became a covering candidate, he is not alone when it came to pitching in for one’s near and dear ones in this Lok Sabha election.
The process of filing nominations in Punjab ended on Monday.
SAD’s Faridkot candidate and former minister Gulzar Singh Ranike’s son Gurinder Pal Singh Ranike filed as a covering candidate for his father. Congress’ Jalandhar and Sangrur candidates Santokh Chaudhary and Kewal Singh Dhillon also preferred their sons Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary and Karan Inder Singh as their covering candidates.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s Faridkot nominee Sadhu Singh relied on his son Rajpal Singh.
In Ludhiana, the candidates of the Congress, AAP and the Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) decided to make wives as their covering nominees. Congress’ Ravneet Bittu, AAP’s Tej Pal Sigh and LIP chief Simarjeet Bains’ have all chosen their wives as their covering nominees .
Moreover, Congress’ Bathinda candidate Raja Warring’s wife Amrita Singh is his covering nominee. Also, former finance minister and SAD’s Parminder Singh Dhindsa preferred his wife Gagandeep Kaur as covering candidate while filing his papers from Sangrur.
Some candidates have chosen their brothers as their covering nominees. They include Congress’ Amritsar nominee Gurjeet Singh Aujla, SAD’s Patiala candidate Surjit Singh Rakhra and Congress’ Patiala candidate Preneet Kaur.
While Ajay Mittal, husband of AAP’s Patiala candidate Nina Mittal, is her covering nominee, party’s Bathinda candidate Baljinder Kaur, who tied knot a few months ago, preferred her mother Ranjit Kaur for the same.
