Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Time for a change, says Akhilesh
In his address, Akhilesh targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party governments both at the centre and in the state, saying that others were backward by birth while PM Narendra Modi was backward on papers only.
After successfully bringing both Samajwadi Party (SP) patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati on one platform after two decades, SP president Akhilesh Yadav termed it a ‘historic day’. Playing a dutiful son assisting his father and perfect host to the gathering in Mulayam’s constituency Mainpuri on Friday, he thanked Mayawati for seeking votes for his father.
Akhilesh was the first to turn up at the venue, Christian College ground, and welcomed everyone, including his father Mulayam Singh Yadav, BSP leaders Mayawati, Satish Mishra and Aakash Anand.

“Prime Minister Modi first became chaiwala and after five years we realised what kind of tea it was. Now he is chowkidar but the alliance will snatch his chowki,” he said, stressing it was time for a change.
“The nation is passing through a difficult phase because farmers are not paid the proper price for their produce despite agriculture being the backbone of our economy. Youths are unemployed and so it is time to decide the nation’s future,” he said.
“The BJP says it aims at creating a new nation but our objective is a new prime minister which would itself create a new nation. Uttar Pradesh progressed only when it was under SP and BSP governments,” he said, hailing Mainpuri as a heritage for Samajwadi movement.
“SP built Lucknow Express-way and BSP built Yamuna Express-way to bring Delhi closer. Now voters should bring Delhi closer for the alliance,” he appealed.
“I am thankful to BSP leader Mayawatiji for being part of this historic moment and seeking vote for Netaji. It has been great the way Netaji led us and appeal by BSP leader would certainly result in his victory by a huge margin. We always respect Netaji and Mayawati ji,”’ he said.
