For instance, the BBA fee was slashed from Rs 45,000 to Rs 35,000 per semester. It is now at par with B Com (Honours) fee. Similarly, fee for M Sc renewable energy course was reduced from Rs 35,000 to Rs 25,000. The revised fee structure will now be tabled for approval by the executive council that would hold a meeting on June 15.

On the other hand, the fees for three postgraduate courses in visual arts courses were doubled. Now, students pursuing these courses would pay Rs 16,000 against Rs 8,635 per semester. While fees for all M Sc (self finance courses) was fixed at Rs 25,000 per semester, charges for M Sc in plant science and environmental science were increased to Rs 25,000 from the existing Rs 16,000 per semester.

With this rationalised fee structure, LU expects to generate Rs 4.5 crore. Vice-chancellor SB Nimse told HT that it was found that there were several discrepancies in the fees of several courses. “There is not much of a difference between B Com (Honours) and BBA course. Hence, there was no reason to charge more fees for BBA,” he said.

He explained, “The M Sc programme in renewable energy was discontinued few years back. High fees could be one of the reasons. But now, we have cut down the fees from Rs 35,000 to Rs 25,000 and expect this course to click now.”
