44-year-old south Mumbai tutor arrested for molesting Class 10 student
A police team is investigating whether Maledina committed similar offences with other students
A tutor of a south Mumbai-based private centre was arrested for allegedly molesting a Class 10 student inside class. According to the police, the accused, 44-year-old Rajjad Mosin Maledina, a resident of Mazgaon, called the survivor to the centre under the pretext of taking extra classes where he touched her inappropriately.
The police said the incident took place around 3pm on Saturday and the survivor was alone.
An officer from JJ Marg police station said, “As the survivor was a late admission, the tutor called her to class an hour early saying she was lagging behind in the portion. Another girl had also been called, but as she was ill she didn’t turn up for the class.”
According to the police, the survivor didn’t speak to anyone for two days. After noticing a sudden change in her behaviour, her parents started enquiring with her friends first and then approached her. The officer said, “The survivor broke down and narrated her ordeal to her mother.”
The parents then filed a complaint against Maledina at JJ Marg police station on Monday. A police team was dispatched to the centre and Maledina was arrested while he was teaching.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Manoj Sharma (zone 1) said, “We registered a case after her parents approached the police station and the accused was nabbed immediately. We are investigating the case thoroughly.”
The police team is investigating whether Maledina committed similar offences with other students.
The accused has been booked under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code along with sections 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children under Sexual Offences act 2012. The accused was produced in court and has been remanded in police custody for two days.
