A nine-year-old boy allegedly was found hanging at his home in a slum pocket in Juhu on Wednesday. Even as the reason for allegedly committing suicide is not clear, the police said his mother used to lock him up home while she went to work in the evening. According to the police, the boy’s mother, a domestic help, found him hanging after returning home from work by 8.30pm.

Psychiatrist Dr Harish Shetty said, “Alienation or social isolation is a big issue in our society. Among poor people, Anaemia can also be a reason for depression. The police needs to find out the cause of suicide.”

While one of the neighbours said his mom had scolded him before leaving and used to lock him while going to work everyday, the boy’s uncle told Hindustan Times,” We have no idea why he would commit suicide. Its true his mom used to lock him every day while going for work but he did not object. She never scolded him. He was watching the India-New Zealand match and had also helped mother to fill water because her legs were paining. If he wanted to go to toilet, from the window he would ask our neighbour to open the door. He also was playing in the ground nearby before going home. No one bullied him there. We are shocked too.” The uncle added, “His birthday was on October 30. We got him new clothes. He even wore them. He wanted a cake on his birthday. Even we do not know what went wrong.” A friend of the boy who is few years elder to him said, “He was good in studies and sports as well. He was not a fearful child.”
